4th January, 2009 - Zoo Parking (15kms)

We will meet at Zoo Parking for the traditional Chairman's Run at 7am.

Don't forget to organise someone to meet you at the top of Signal Hill, as you are unlikely to want to run back. This can be a friend, husband, wife, partner, we encourage you to bring the family if you can persuade them to come :) Don't forget to bring a picnic along for after the run. The boy racers leave from VOB running club at 6:45am and will no doubt catch us on Signal Hill. The run is likely to take at least 2 hours, so it would be best to arrange to meet your other half at around 9am. There are no short cuts, but you could always get a lift in the coke truck although space would be limited.

This is quite a tough run, as we go straight up to Rhodes Memorial (first coke stop) and then up again to the contour path, lots of walking is encouraged. It is easy to get lost, so if you not sure of the route then stick with the main bunch, this is also a good idea for security reasons. Our next coke stop is when we join up with Tafelberg Rd. The run along here is fairly flat and very scenic. There will be another coke stop about 3kms down this route. We run all the way down to the circle at the top of Kloof Neck Rd and then on up Signal Hill.

Look out for the coke stops, every 3kms along the route.

28th December, 2008 - Tokai (16kms)

Originally this run was scheduled for Zoo Parking but it now has been changed to Tokai.

We meet at the Spar in Tokai at 7:00am. The run takes us up towards the to Arboretum turning right at the Manor House and then through the Chrysalis Academy to
the Stone Church for the 1st coke stop.

Left onto Spaanschemat turning left again after the grape store and following the road all the way around to Paddavlei (2nd coke stop) leading to Constantia
Road and turning right at Parish into Ladie Mile Extention. The short cut is straight up Spaanschemat joining the Stars on Ladies Mile.

All the way to the circle in Ladies Mile turning right into Firgrove
and the 3rd coke stop. The route then goes back onto Spaanschemat, right at the Stone Church and back tracks to the Manor House where we turn left and back
down to the start.

Thanks to Deborah & Rudi Horn-Botha for doing the Coke Truck.

And so we come to end of another running year. I am really sorry that I never made the deadline for Imbaleki this year but just ran out of time I am afraid. Have a wonderful Christmas all of you and may 2009 be kind to us all.

Happy running

Pete and Ali

21st December, 2008 - Waterfront (18kms)

Starting at 07h00 from the gravel car park, the Waterfront Run takes you along the coast to Camps Bay, with stops at Moullie Point, President's Beach, and Camps Bay High School. It then climbs up the high road, giving you superb views of the coast before dropping down again at Sea Point Pavilion, and returning along the coast road to the Waterfront. A very pleasant out and back 18 kms, with turn back points at 6 and 12 kms for those taking it easy.

14th December, 2008 - Boys Drive (15kms)

This week it is a 7am start from Muizenberg. We will be running Boys drive, this is a very scenic undulating run for the first half. The run back from Kalk Bay is nice and flat. Unfortunately there aren't too many short cuts, the only one is down Jacobs ladder, which will cut off about 3kms from your run.

7th December, 2008 - Muizenberg (17kms)

7:00 AM Start

Firstly my humble apologies, as I indicated that the run this past Sunday started at 7:30. I arrived at 7:20 to find a few other runners who had followed the information on the blog. I think this is my first real mistake in the past 2 years, so you can trust the web site :)

7:00am start from Muizenberg Pavillon. The run takes us through to Glencairn, with coke stops in St James, Fish Hoek Beach and then Glencairn.

For a shorter run, some people turn back at Fish Hoek giving you a very respectable 12km. The run follows the path along the coast from Muizenberg through to St James, where we join the road for the final trek into Fish Hoek. Again from Fish Hoek beach we follow the scenic path along the beach front and then over the bridge where we meet the main road that leads us into Glencairn.

There is often the chance of seeing whales and dolphins along the route, particularly at this time of year.

30th November, 2008 - Zoo Parking (13kms)

This week it is from the Zoo Parking at 7:30, and it's the conventional Zoo Parking run up Boshoff Ave to Top Tap, then along the ridge past Chiavelli's old place, over the M3 footbridge, and down to Wynberg School before coming back along Tennant, past Paradise Motors, and back to the Zoo Parking.

It's about 13 kms, but is a "quality run" with plenty of hills, and its magically scenic.

16th November, 2008 - Fish Hoek (18kms)

The run starts at 7am from Fish Hoek. The run goes through to Simonstown
Golf course and back. As this is an out and back course, you can make it as long or as short as you like. In fact some keen runners training for a marathon have been know to even ventured a bit further than the normal turnaround at the golf course. As always there are coke stops every 3kms of the route. There is a little bit of undulating, particularly the climb into Simonstown and then back out the other side to the golf course. Look out for a whale or two along the route :)

17th February, 2008, - Zoo Parking (13km)

This week it is from the Zoo Parking at 7:00, and it's the conventional Zoo Parking run up Boshoff Ave to Top Tap, then along the ridge past Chiavelli's old place, over the M3 footbridge, and down to Wynberg School before coming back along Tennant, past Paradise Motors, and back to the Zoo Parking.

It's about 13 kms, but is a "quality run" with plenty of hills, and its magically scenic.

9th February, 2008 - Muizenberg (18km)

7am start from Muizenberg Pavillon.

There is often the chance of seeing whales and dolphins along the route, although perhaps not whales so much at this time of year.

Thanks to Catherine for last weeks delicious crunchies & shortbread.

20th January 2008, Hout Bay (20km or 16km) - lots of possible shortcuts :)

This week, we meet at the bottom of Chapman's Peak Drive at 7am.

Depending on the wind, cyclists on the road etc, we will either run the route below or Suikerbossie Route - See the bottom of this entry to see that route description.

Hout Bay 20km

This is one of our longest runs but a scenic one and thankfully there are a number of short cut opportunities :) We start by running up to the top of Chapman's Peak. The first coke stop is at the Lookout point. From here we head back down and the second coke stop is at the car park where we started.

The route now goes right through to the circle next to Imizamo Yethu, here we turn right up Victoria Avenue and the third coke stop at the intersection with Empire (for a shorter route you can go down Empire). The route follows Victoria Avenue down though past the Spar and towards the beach and right to the end of the harbour before doubling back inside the harbour for the 4th coke stop outside Mariners Wharf. We now follow the road back along Princess Street until the circle where we turn back into main street. For those doing the full route, you turn into Promenade just after the Caltex garage, heading down to the beach and then back along beach road to the parking lot. For those wanting to see an interactive Google Earth version, just download this small file (you will need right click and select "Save Target As" option). Open the file in Google Earth and you can Zoom right in on any section of the route - amazing stuff :) Click here to just see an image of the route.

Hout Bay 16km

We start in the parking area at the bottom of Chapman's Peak at 7am. The run is about 16km in duration with lots of opportunities for short cuts :)) We start heading down along the beach road towards Dunes before following the road round and towards the main road. At the intersection with the Main road at the Caltex garage we turn left towards the Circle. The route now goes right through to the circle next to Imizamo Yethu, here we turn right up Victoria Avenue and the first coke stop at the intersection with Empire, outside the infamous La Cuccina Coffee shop. From here we follow the road up Suikerbossie(to virtually the very top I am afraid) before turning into the Ruyterplaats Housing Estate (same turning off Suikerbossie as Suikerbossie restaurant). Here we stop for our well deserved second coke stop. Coke stops are at every three k's, as an interesting point of reference. If you haven't done this run before it is very easy to get lost finding the secret path through Ruyterplaats so make sure you tag onto a "Special Star". The secret path also requires a secret wave which requires years of practice :) The path eventually links up with Valley road and we follow this back to the point of our first Coke stop at the intersection with Victoria and Empire roads (3rd coke stop). For those wanting a short cut you can go down Empire road to Princess Street. From here we go up Victoria Avenue, before turning at the lights down Victoria Avenue. The route follows Victoria Avenue down though past the Spar and towards the beach and right to the end of the harbour before doubling back inside the harbour for the 4th coke stop outside Mariners Whalf. We now follow the road back along Princess Street until the circle where we turn back into main street and follow the road all the way back to the parking lot at the start of our run.

There will be delicious bite size La Cuccina health muffins at the end :) - Thanks to La Cuccina Coffee Shop. Thanks also to Sue and Wendy for doing the coke truck.

13th January, 2008 - Fish Hoek 18km

The run starts at 7am from Fish Hoek. The run goes through to Simonstown
Golf course and back. As this is an out and back course, you can make it as long or as short as you like. In fact some keen runners training for Oceans have been know to even ventured a bit further than the normal turnaround at the golf course. As always there are coke stops every 3kms of the route. There is a little bit of undulating, particularly the climb into Simonstown and then back out the other side to the golf course.

Thanks to Brenda and Ursula for doing the Coke Truck.
