Dear Fellow Runners,

For a number of reasons we have decided to discontinue announcing the Sunday Stars runs using this blog.

The announcement as to the following Sunday's run will only be made at the Sunday run each week.

Sunday, 18 July 2010 - Green Belts (16kms)

This Sunday, 18 July 2010, we will be leaving VOB at 07h30 am to run the Constantia Green Belts.

Out the main gate and down to the Alphen Trail, and then along it to Brommersvlie (1st Coke stop), then up the Diep River Trail to Southern Cross Drive (2nd Coke stop), up to Rhodes Drive, find a friend or two, then through the Cecilia Forest to Top Tap (3rd coke stop), along past Chiavelli's old place, right into Monteray Drive, down through Wynberg Park, around the Military Hospital (I believe the hole in the fence is closed?), and up to the Military Hospital Gate (4th coke stop), and then home from there.

Short cutters can go home through the green belts again, and not do the Wynberg Park Section for about 12 kms. The full run is about 16 kms.

Sunday, 11 July 2010 - Waterfront (17 kms)

On Sunday, 11 July 2010, Ali and I will be away, but Sunday Stars will be running from the Waterfront, leaving at 7.30 am.

We leave from the road a little way down from Somerset Hospital (mind the cars, we park on the road), and we go along past the Hotel School and Moullie Point to Three Anchor Bay for the 1st Coke stop.

We then follow the promenade through Sea Point to President's Beach for the 2nd Coke stop.

Then its up the hill, and on to Camps Bay High School for the 3rd coke stop. After that, its along the high level road (magic views!)and back to President's for the 4th coke stop.

Then its back along the promenade, to Three Anchor Bay (5th coke stop), past Moullie Point and back to the start.

Sunday, 04 July 2010 - Hout Bay (18 kms)

This Sunday, 04 July 2010, we will be running from Hout Bay, direction to be decided on the day starting at 7.30 am.

We meet in the car park opposite Chapman's Peak Hotel, and we will either go up Chapman's Peak, or we will go up Suikerbossie.

The Chapman's Peak run goes up to the observation point, then back down to the garage just around the corner from where we started, then up to Victoria Mall, then through the village down to Snoekies, through the harbour back to Mariner's Warf, and then back to the car park to finish.

The Suikerbossie run goes up to Victoria Mall, up Suikerbossie to the housing estate, through to the world of birds, then down to Victoria Mall, through the village, round the harbour to Snoekies and then back to Mariner's Warf before finishing at the car park.

Sunday, 27 June 2010 - Tokai (16 Kms)

This Sunday, 27 June 2010, we are running from Tokai, still leaving at 7.30 am.

We start from the service station in Tokai Road, and go up towards the Manor House before turning right and going to the stone church for the first coke stop.

Then we follow Spaanscemat River Road until we turn left into Nova Constantia Road and then right into Klein Constantia Road before turn left into Pagasvlei and running up the hill to the second coke stop at the top.

From there we follow Pagasvlei until we turn right into Constantia Main Road (on the cycle path, please!)and turn right into Ladies Mile Road. A nice long straight will take us down the the M3 bridge and then down to Meadowridge Circle where will will find the third coke stop on the Firgrove service road.

Then it's down Firgrove, across the M3 again, and back into Spaanscemat River Road, and back to the start. (16 kms).

If you want a short cut, turn into Soetvlei, and go along the cycle path back to the start (14 kms).

Sunday, 20 June 2010 - Fish Hoek (18 kms)

This Sunday, 20 June 2010, we will be running from Fish Hoek, leaving at 7.30 am.

We assemble in the Fish Hoek beach car park, and then we follow Main Road to Glencairn for the 1st Coke Stop, and then on to Simonstown Station for the 2nd Coke stop, and then past Jubilee Square to Boulders for the 3rd coke stop, and then it's all the way back to Fish Hoek to complete an 18 km, scenic coastal run.

Sunday, 13 June 2010 Boyes Drive (14 kms)

This Sunday we are running Boyes Drive leaving Muizenberg car park at 7.30 am.

We go back along Main Road to Lakeside (1st Coke stop), up and over Boyes Drive (2nd Coke stop half way up), left into Main Road (3rd Coke stop), and back to Muizenberg.

Good run, nice hills, lovely views!

"Soccer Sunday!" - 30 May 2010 VOB, (15 kms)

This Sunday, 30 May 2010, is "Soccer Sunday"and we will be running the green belts from VOB, leaving at 7.30 am.

We go out the main gate, down to the Alphen trail, along it to Brommersvlei, (1st coke stop),cross it and up the Diep River trail to Southern Cross (2nd Coke stop), up to Rhodes Drive, regroup, (find a couple of friends), run through the Cecilia Forest and Kirstenbosch to Top Tap (3rd Coke stop), along past Chiavelli's old place, turn right into Monteray Drive, and then through Wynberg Park to the Military Hospital (4th coke stop) and then back to VOB. (15 kms).

Be sure to wear some Bafana kit to show your support for the 2010 national team!

Sunday, 23 May, 2010 - Tokai (16 kms)

(Diary Date: Sunday, 30 May - "Soccer Sunday" - wear your Bafana shirt / T shirt to support the national team!)

This Sunday, 23 May, we are running from Tokai. Please don't start early as it disrupts the group, and sometimes the route is changed at the last minute.

We start from the service station in Tokai Road, and go up towards the Manor House before turning right and going to the stone church for the first coke stop.

Then we follow Spaanscemat River Road until we turn left into Nova Constantia Road and then right into Klein Constantia Road before turn left into Pagasvlei and running up the hill to the second coke stop at the top.

Sunday, 09 May 2010 - Old Zoo Parking (14 kms)

We are running from the Old Zoo Parking this Sunday, leaving at 7.30 am. Please don't leave early, it breaks up the group, and we then don't know who is running with us. Also, the direction of the run might be changed at the last minute.

The route takes us back along the footpath beside the M3 (not on the road, please) and down to Boshof Ave for our first coke stop.

From there its a long haul up Rhodes Drive to Top Tap for the second coke stop, before following Klaassens Road (the views!) across the M3 footbridge for the 3rd coke stop.

After that, its down past Wynberg Boys High, left into Alexandra and back onto Tennant until it becomes Newlands Road, across Bowwood to Grove for the 4th coke stop, and then home past Paradise Motors and back to the Zoo.

Sunday, 02 May 2010 - Muizenberg (18 kms)

This Sunday, 02 May 2010, we will be running from Muizenberg, leaving at 7.30 am.

We meet at the pavilion car park and go along the cat walk to St James, and then up onto the road (pavement please!) to the first coke stop at Kalk Bay.

Then it's along the road to Fish Hoek beach car park for the second coke stop. Some people turn back from here giving them a 12 km run.

The rest go all the way to Glencairn for the third coke stop and turn back from there.

On the way back, there are coke stops at Fish Hoek beach, Kalk Bay and then Muizenberg.

Easter Monday, 05 April 2010 - Green Belts (16 kms)

Good luck to all those Sunday Stars who are running either the Two Oceans Ultra or the Half Marathon! Enjoy the run!

On Easter Monday we will be doing the Sunday Stars Green Belts Run leaving VOB at 7.00 am.

We go down to the Alphen Trail and follow it up to Brommersvlei (1st coke stop), then up the Diep River Trail to Southern Cross Drive, (2nd Coke stop), then up and over Rhodes Drive, find a couple of friends, and run through the Cecilia Forest and Kirstenbosch to Top Tap for the 3rd Coke stop.

Then home either (1) along Klaasens Road to Wynberg Park, the Military Hospital (4th coke stop) and down Wynberg Hill past Victoria Hospital and home (16 kms), or (2) back along the little green belt and along the Pickard's Tap Green Belt, back onto the Alphen Trail and home (14 kms), or (3) back along Brommersvlei and home (14 kms).

Sunday, 28 March 2010 - Two Oceans Practice Run (18 kms)

This Sunday we will be doing our Two Oceans Half Marathon Practice Run which leaves VOB at 07h00.

We go out the main gate and turn up Constantia Main Road and then left into Spaanschemat and left again into Doordrift which we follow all the way down to Gabriel Road in Plumstead. We turn left into Gabriel and follow it along to the Alphen Business Park for the first coke stop.

From there, we pick up the Half Marathon route following Constantia Main Road to Parish, (we don't do the little Spaanschemat loop) right into Parish (2nd coke stop half way along Parish) before turning left into Southern Cross Drive.

All the way up Southern Cross Drive (3rd coke stop almost at the top) before crossing Rhodes Drive into Cecilia Forrest (we don't go along Rhodes Drive today - too many of us) and in small groups go through Cecilia Forrest to Top Tap (4th coke stop).

From Top Tap you can continue along Klaasens through Wynberg Park to the Military Hospital (5th coke stop), or you can go home through the green belts or along one of the roads.

From the Military Hospital it's along to Constantia Main Road and back to the start at VOB.

Sunday, 21 March - Hout Bay (18 kms)

This Sunday, 21 March, we will be leaving the Chapman's Peak car park at 7.00 am direction to be decided on the day.

We have two routes we may run.

The first is up Chapman's Peak Drive to the observation point, back down to the service station just past where we started, up the Main Road to the second circle (near the police station) left to Victoria Mall, down into the village, down to the harbour and around the bottom of it, back to Mariner's Warf and then back to the start. (18 kms).

The second route is up the Main Road to the police station, left to Victoria Mall, then all the way up Suikerbossie to Ryuterplaats, through Ryuterplaats and down Valley Road to Victoria Road again, then down through the village, around the harbour back to Mariner's Warf and the back to the start (20 kms almost!).

Sunday, 14 March 2010, Tokai (15 kms)

This week end is Argus Cycle Tour week end, so we will be running from Tokai.

We start from the service station in Tokai Road, and go up towards the Manor House before turning right and going to the stone church for the first coke stop.

Then we follow Spaanscemat River Road until we turn left into Nova Constantia Road and then right into Klein Constantia Road before turn left into Pagasvlei and running up the hill to the second coke stop at the top.

From there we follow Pagasvlei until we turn right into Constantia Main Road (on the cycle path, please)and turn right into Ladies Mile Road. A nice long straight will take us down the the M3 bridge (stop and watch the cyclists) and then down to Meadowridge Circle where will will find the third coke stop on the Firgrove service road.

Then it's down Firgrove, across the M3 again (more cyclists), and back into Spaanscemat River Road, and back to the start.

Sometimes we reverse the route, and run it the other way around. Decision on the day!

Sunday, 07 March 2010 - Zoo Parking (14 kms)

This Sunday, 07 March 2010, we will be running from the old Zoo Parking in Rondebosch, leaving at 7.00 am.

Sunday, 28 February 2010. Green Belts (16 kms)

This Sunday (28 February) we will be doing the Green Belts run.

We start from the VOB Club house at 7.00 am and go down to the Alphen Trail which we follow up to the first coke stop at Brommersvlei.

We then follow the Diep River Trail all the way up to Southern Cross Drive for the second coke stop.

We then regroup and run through the Cecilia Forest in small groups, exiting at Top Tap for the third coke stop.

After that you can choose to come home through Wynberg Park (fourth coke stop at the entrance to the Military Hospital), or through the green belts, or back along Brommersvlei.

The full run is about 16 kms, the shorter versions between 12 and 14 kms.

Sunday, 21 February 2010 - Muizenburg (18 kms)

This Sunday, 21 February, we will run from the pavilion car park in Muizenburg, leaving at 7.00 am.

We run along the cat walk to St James, then on the pavements through Kalk Bay to Fish Hoek, and then along to Glencairn.

Some guys turn back at Fish Hoek, which will give a 12 km run, whilst others turn back at Glencairn giving them an 18 km run.

Sunday, 14 February 2010 - Hout Bay (18 kms)

On Valentine's Day (14 Feb 10), we will be running from Hout Bay, direction to be decided on the day.

The first option is from the Chapman's Peak Hotel car park up to the Chapman's Peak Observation point, back down to the garage just past the start, up the main road to the second circle (near the police station) left into the road which takes us to Victoria Mall, down the hill into the village, round the harbour, back to Mariner's Warf, and then back to the start.(20 kms).

The second option is up the main road to Victoria Mall, and then up Suikerbossie to the smart housing development, through it and out the back gate, past the world of birds, past Victoria Mall again, down the hill into the village, round the harbour, back to Mariner's Warf, and then back to the start.(18 kms).

Ali & I are away this week, but the Coke truck is being done by Brenda Parker and Ginette Flockton.

Sunday, 31 January 2010 - Zoo Parking (14 kms)

This Sunday we will be doing the Zoo Parking run which is about 14 kms.

We will leave the Zoo Parking area at 7.00 am and go along the walkway to Boshoff Ave ( for the 1st coke stop), and then up the hill to Top Tap (2nd Coke stop). We then go along past all those nice houses and cross the footbridge to the 3rd Coke stop just over the bridge.

Then it's past Wynberg Boys High and left into Alexander and the left again into Tennant and back towards the Zoo Parking past Paradise Motors.

It's about 14 kms, but is a "quality run" with plenty of hills, and its magically scenic.

Sunday, 24 January 2010 - Tokai

This week's run will be from Tokai.

We leave the service station beside the Spar in Tokai at 7:00am.

The run takes us up towards the Arboretum turning right at the Manor House and then through the Chrysalis Academy to the Stone Church. (1st coke stop.)

Left onto Spaanschemat River Road, turning left again after the farm store and following the road all the way around to Paggesvlei (2nd coke stop).

Then we go down to Constantia Main Road, turning right towards the stone church, and the right again into Ladies Mile Extention. (There is a short cut straight up Spaanschemat joining up again on Ladies Mile).

All the way to the circle in Ladies Mile turning right into Firgrove. (3rd coke stop.)

The route then goes back onto Spaanschemat, right at the first Stone Church and back past the Manor House where we turn left and back down to the start.

Sometime we reverse the route and run it the other way.

Sunday, 17 January 2010 - Muizenburg (18 kms)

This Sunday we are running from Muizenburg.

The run leaves Muizenburg car park at 7.00 am and follows the catwalk to St James, then onto the road to Kalk Bay (first coke stop) and then to Fish Hoek beach (second coke stop).

Some runners turn back at this point - this will give them a 12 km run. Others go on to Glencairn (third coke stop) and turn back from there for an 18 km run.

On the way back there are coke stops at Fish Hoek beach, Kalk Bay and then back to the start.
